We started the year talking about design challenges, so then we did one! The goal was to support the most weight with a structure made out of 50 index cards, and the structure had to be at least 4 inches tall.
We learned about a circuit, conductors, and insulators. Then we chose things to test whether they are one or the other.
We also started our unit on rockets, learning about the force of gravity, drag, lift, and propulsion. We did an experiment sending balloons across a string and then launched film-canister rockets outside. Then we started building our rockets. Unfortunately, due to a mistake at the company, we were missing parts, so we paused on that unit. Â
While we were paused from the rocket building, we spent a day transferring our knowledge from basic circuits to create a light-up holiday card, using copper tape, 3V watch batteries, and small LED lights. Â
