The mission of the Pattonville Heights Middle School Band program is three-fold:
1. To provide high quality music literature and instruction.
2. To create musical excellence in rehearsal and performance.
3. To cultivate a sense of musical community.
The Pattonville Heights Band directors have the responsibility of providing high quality instruction with a focus on The 5 Ts: Tone, Timing, Technique, Tuning, Training. Students will receive individual, section, and ensemble attention and instruction to ensure the most significant growth. Directors will provide a variety of high-quality literature that both honors the American wind band tradition, but also explores other cultures, and embraces new literature. The directors strive to ensure students leave Heights having performed a diverse body of literature.
Students and faculty both will be motivated to perform at a high level and create musical excellence in all rehearsals and performances. Together we will promote an environment of high expectations, encouragement, and accountability. We will explore the process of practice and reflection, using a growth mindset as we continually improve ourselves as musicians. Through this, we hope to foster the interest and develop the skill set to inspire a lifelong love and participation in music.
In the Pattonville Heights Band program, we cultivate a sense of musical community. Students connect the mental, emotional, physical, and social aspects of themselves, their learning, and their music making. We use our music to communicate to ourselves, our families, school, and community. The band room is a safe place where students feel valued and heard. Together, we create something greater than we ever could individually.
