Mission Statement and Instructional Focus

P.S. 236 Mission Statement:

The common goal for our school community is to work together to create a warm, supportive space where all students, no matter their background or learning needs, can thrive academically and develop a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.

P.S. 236 Instructional Focus:

Grades K–2: Strengthen students’ reading fluency by emphasizing accurate sound formation and consistent use of strategies from the adopted phonics program. 

Grades 3–5: Build vocabulary across all subject areas by teaching students to use context clues and inferencing strategies to understand and apply new words.
