The P.S. 236 PTA

Dear P.S. 236/ Mill Basin School Families,

Welcome back returning P.S. 236 families, and a great big welcome to our new P.S. 236 families! We hope you enjoyed your first two days of school last week! We are thrilled to be a part of such a diverse community, and we look forward to promoting inclusion, engagement and family empowerment.

Our regular monthly PTA meetings are held virtually on Zoom and are open to all of our families. They are held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m., with the exception of our initial meeting. Meeting information will be shared on Parent Square each month.

We would like to invite you to our Back-to-School Breakfast Meeting, which will be on Tuesday, September 19th at 9:00 a.m. in the student cafeteria. This will be our first in-person meeting since the pandemic. We look forward to seeing you there! Please R.S.V.P. on Parent Square so that we can plan accordingly.

The PTA plays many pivotal roles at P.S. 236, including:

·   COMMUNICATION: Monthly PTA meetings are a vital source of information about what’s going on in our school, as well as a forum for your questions, concerns, and ideas. Correspondence is also done through Parent Square, subsidized by the PTA, in the form of announcements, volunteer opportunities, questionnaires and our monthly newsletter, The Husky Howler.

·   FUNDRAISING: The PTA fundraising efforts fill the school's budget gaps by providing funding towards academic support for both students and teachers, enrichment programs, student clubs and social events. This last winter marked the return of school dances with the Snow Ball and, next month will mark our 3rd annual Pumpkin Patch!

·       ADVOCACY: Our voices are always stronger together. The PTA can help identify and advance concerns from families in classrooms and the school overall.

·   COMMUNITY EVENTS: Sometimes one of the most important things we can do is just be in the community together. Events, such as our first ever Carnival, play an important role in connecting our school and community in celebration.

·   VOLUNTEERING: Most importantly, the PTA can’t do many of these wonderful things without you and your support. We are always seeking volunteers to assist in making these events a success and a positive experience for the students. Sign up information will be posted on the Parent Square app, so please be sure to check for opportunities and updates. Any level of support is greatly appreciated!

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas via Parent Square or email us at 22k236pa@schools.nyc.gov  We are very much looking forward to meeting you at upcoming and future meetings, because:  YOU ARE AN IMPORTANT MEMBER OF OUR P.S. 236 MILL BASIN SCHOOL COMMUNITY!
