School Opening FAQ:

Threshold for Reopening Schools

In order for schools to reopen, New York City must meet the following:

• The percent of positive tests in New York City is less than 3% using a 7-day rolling average. If we cross this threshold, we will not reopen.

Threshold for Closing Schools

Schools will need to close if New York City meets the following:

• The percent of positive tests in New York City is equal to or greater than 3% using a 7-day rolling average. If we cross this threshold, schools will close.

Building Preparations Prior to Schools Reopening

• Schools provided with: hand sanitizer, soap, disinfectants, thermometers

• Maximum number of sinks available for hand washing.

• Improvements to HVAC systems, air conditioning repairs, regular air filters replaced with higher efficiency types.

• Increased cleaning throughout the school day, with special attention to high-touch areas.

Food Services

• Grab-and-go meals will be available for breakfast and lunch each day

  • Students also permitted to bring their own lunch

• Lunch will be in classrooms

• Grab-and-go meals will be delivered to students in 3K to K classrooms, and pickup points within the school will be designated for grades 1-12.
