Five Food Groups to focus on at every meal:
Fruits (Such as: bananas, strawberries, apples)
Vegetables (Such as: Broccoli, String Beans, Kale)
Grains (Such as: Whole Wheat Bread, Brown Rice, Quinoa)
Proteins (Such as: Lean Meats, Fish, Nuts, Beans)
Dairy (Such as: Milk, Cheese, Yogurt)
How many servings should my child be getting every day?
Fruits
- 1- 1 1/2 cups each day
Vegetables-
1 1/2 - 2 cups each day
Grains-
2 1/2- 3 ounces each day
Proteins-
4-5 ounces each day
Dairy-
2 1/2- 3 cups each day
Foods to AVOID:
Junk food (Such as candy, chips, ice cream, high sugar snacks)
Fried foods (They contain unhealthy levels of fatty oils)
Juice and Soda (Always look at the sugar content on the nutrition label)
STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE NO MORE THAN 25-35 GRAMS OF SUGAR EACH DAY... EQUIVALENT to 4 TEASPOONS!
TOO MUCH SUGAR LEADS TO OUR RISING NUMBER OF CHILDREN WITH DIABETES! WE CAN CHANGE THIS!
