Providence Day School is committed to providing learning activities and opportunities even if we are unable to meet in person. Our Lower School faculty is devoted to maintaining a personal connection with each child while also supporting their academic and social emotional development during this time of remote learning.
Students will be invited to join two special events, such as a Google Hangout class meeting or sharing a question of the day and/or videos of story time, book clubs, or novel reads. Please note that there may only be one special event during our first week - Wednesday, March 25th -27th.
Students participating in live events should be dressed appropriately. It is good practice that students find a quiet location, mute their microphone, and have a good work surface during live events.
Students are expected to adhere to the Charger Code Expectations at all times. Parents should contact Lower School Administration (Jenny Tucker, TK-2 and Erin Harper, 3-5) if additional coaching and guidance is needed for their child.
Student behavioral expectations are to remain the same as during our normal school day. Please refer to the Student-Parent Handbook if you have any questions. Lower School Administration will be contacted, if necessary.
access to a weekly template provided by teachers that includes lessons/activities for students
two weekly communications from their classroom teachers that will be sent on Tuesdays and Thursdays by 9:00 a.m.
a response to emails within 24 hours during the school week
The Division Head will send frequent communication to parents via email with updates, announcements, and a reminder that school is still in session. School-wide administration will communicate with the community at least weekly. Families can reach out to school leaders at any time.
Attendance will not be taken daily as many of the learning opportunities will be asynchronous. The completion of all assignments and participation in synchronous events will be monitored to ensure that students are participating. Students who become ill should have their parents email their teachers and the division head to let them know if they are too ill to participate in learning opportunities.
As always, it is expected that we will all use our PDS digital citizenship compass to guide our online behavior.
The librarians at PDS are exceptional resources and will be available to students and families as needed. You can reach Ms. Johnson (TK-2) or Mrs. Miller (3-5) via email.
Families can reach out to Mrs. Brinley as needed for virtual counseling. We also encourage you to click on the tab for our Student Services page at the top of this site. Click here to get to the Counseling Corner.
The tech department will be monitoring email from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. The Help Desk phone number, 704-887-7030, will also be monitored.
After 4:30 pm, you can email pds.techhelp@providenceday.org for assistance. This address will be monitored until 9 pm each evening and checked a minimum of twice a day on weekends.
