2017 Resolutions

During the 2017 vote at the Annual Meeting it was decided that this year the NFWI and all its member WI's and their memberships would support two resolutions:

  • End Plastic Soup
  • Alleviating Loneliness

Information about these two resolutions can be found on this page.

EES has been supporting both of these initiatives this year.

During our October and November meetings we asked members and guests to create a Kindness Pledge on a bunting flag which we will be displaying at out December meeting. The pledges will be simple acts of kindness that may alleviate someones loneliness, perhaps a simple 'Hello' in the street or the supermarket, or asking someone sitting alone to join you in the cafe.

Additionally, we have asked members to invite someone who might be lonely along to our November meeting. By offering this invite and walking to and from the evening we are hoping to reach out to people who might otherwise be left indoors with no social interaction that day.

You can read the full campaign pack here. EES have started to consider ways in which we can help support this resolution. We have already run workshops with a 'make do and mend' theme, asking crafters to bring along old sheets, duvets and tea towels to re-purpose into Oxford Pillowcases and Tote bags. We are conscious that in the past we have used plastic disposable cutlery at our meetings and events and whilst we use these up we are now looking into more ecologically friendly alternatives. We have begun to raise awareness in our newsletters and weekly updates passing along tips to our members on how some simple steps can help in the realisation of this aim.

We will continue to work on supporting both of these resolutions - please ask a member of the Committee if you have an idea that we could pass along to our members or you would like some more information.
