The Magpie Project

Providing support to families in temporary accommodation in Newham

https://themagpieproject.org/

A local charity set up by about 15 mums who were concerned about the plight of mums living in temporary or insecure accommodation with under 5's. They work to help out in practical ways, supporting the family, offering a supported stay and play twice a week with lunch and fun, providing much needed respite for women who just need a break. They help mums to get the advice and support they can from other agencies. They help in practical ways, providing items of need to these families. They ask for help in a number of ways, Volunteers, financial support, donating goods and raising awareness.

"Some 2,000 households were housed by Newham council in temporary accommodation, within the borough, at the start of 2015, the highest of all London boroughs. London’s Poverty Profile This does not include the large number of people housed by other boroughs into Newham. They estimate that 4,994 children live in temporary accommodation across Newham."
