CyberPatriot Team

CyberPatriot is a program run by the Air Force Association in order to introduce youth to cyber security. With the direction our world is going, cyber security will only become more important, and the competition allows you to get a feel for cyber security, and possibly find a new passion. The competition works where you are given a scenario, such as you have been hired by a company to work cyber security, and you have to go through their company computer to ensure it is safe. Here you could be removing viruses, installing new programs, removing unauthorized users, and other things that would ensure safety of a computer. There is also a quiz portion, where there are questions on cyber security concepts. The competition is run through a virtual machine, which is separate from your computer, so there is no risk in competing. The rules of the competition allow for teams of up to 6 people, but if you have 6 one person is only allowed to watch, so we recommend a team of 5. The competition is structured with rounds, and you progress through these rounds based on the amount of points you have, earning points with each task you complete. If you are completely new and unfamiliar with cyber security, do not worry, as the official CyberPatriot website has sections where you can learn how to do a variety of things that can ensure safety on a computer, as well as learn the basics of how to navigate a computer.

The team captain is Virginia Van Mater.
