Our group presented a presentation about Acid and Mercury decomposition . On 21 February 2023, during A block, my group with Jackson Etheridge, Katie Vlacich, Barrett D’Orio, and myself. The presentation contains the chemical, reason, damage, and solutions for Acid and Mercury decomposition. Check it out if you are interested!
Delaney, Ryan, Bea, and Augie did a slideshow on the same block as my presentation on photochemical smog (Brown Smog). Their slide contains the sources, impacts, solutions, and chemicals that create photochemical smog. The primary pollutant is nitrogen oxide. It reacts with the sun and one organic compound in the atmosphere and forms Airborne particles and ground-level ozone—or smog. AndTropospheric ozone is often the most abundant chemical made. Ozone is a secondary pollutant. One of the point sources of nitrogen oxide is factory emission. The smog appeared brownish and can be highly harmful to humans and plants. Respiratory disorders, cardiovascular dysfunction, neurological disorders, and cancer are some diseases that smog can cause. "Auto traffic and factories are the main cause of photochemical smog"(Obertin). The group also did a case study in China, where poor outdoor air quality results in over 1 million death per year in China. People can help to improve the air quality by driving less and using more public transportation.

The presentation did a great job educating us on the creation of air pollution and its effect of it. No one has educated me on the creation of pollution and that we can contribute to pollution in our everyday life. Also, the effect of the smog was new to me. I never thought that smog could cause cancer. Growing up in Shenzhen, China, where the air pollution is terrible, the air quality was always around 200 AQI, which is considered unhealthy to be outside breathing. My parents rarely let me go outside to hang out with my firend because they were always concerned about health issues related to the air quality. Occasionally schools are canceled because the air pollution is terrible. The Chinese government is trying to solve the problem by moving factories into the low populated area, which has shown an effect because the air quality has increased since 2014, one year to control air pollution. As Ryan said, " Regulating factories is a key factor in reducing air pollution"(Jorgensen).
