Ms. Kirkpatrick and Ms. Lopez are available to help students in need of extra social or emotional support. They can work directly with students either one-on-one or in a group setting.
Services may involve a one-time meeting, periodic check-ins, short-term supports, or ongoing counseling. Everyone is different, so it all depends on whatever is most helpful to each individual student!
Social Work Referrals
A student can be referred for school social work services by a parent, teacher, administrator, other school staff member, or by his or her self. The social workers can only work with students who are personally open to school social work services. When needed, the social workers can also help make referrals to services outside of school.
To make a referral, simply reach out to one of the social workers in person, by phone, or via email.
Parental Consent
According to state law, students between 12 and 18 years of age can participate in up to 8 counseling sessions without parent permission. Students who wish to see a social worker beyond that number of times must have permission from their parent/guardian to do so. As a general practice, a social worker will obtain parental consent prior to setting up regular counseling sessions with students under 12 years of age. Consent forms for each building are attached below.
