Museums & Libraries
Protect and display important artefacts as a Curator or Librarian, guide people through the past as a Tour Guide, or reveal history to the world as a Writer or Filmmaker.
Science
Archaeologists, Anthropologists, Palaeontologists, and Geologists all delve into the past using science. You could also learn from the past to improve the future as a Conservationist or Environmental Scientist.
Education
You could pass your history knowledge on to future generations by becoming a Teacher or Lecturer, or even publish new findings and discoveries as a Researcher.
These are just some of the pathways you could explore!
Scope
History is a dynamic discipline that involves structured inquiry into the human actions, forces and conditions (social, political, economic, cultural, environmental and technological) that have shaped the past and present. To make meaning of the past, historians use historical sources, which include primary sources and historical interpretations. Historians analyse and evaluate evidence and use this when constructing historical arguments. As historians ask new questions, revise interpretations, or discover new sources, fresh understandings about the past come to light. Although history deals with the particular specific individuals and key events the potential scope of historical inquiry is vast and formed by the questions that historians pursue, the availability of historical sources, and the capacity of historians to interpret those sources. VCE History reflects this by enabling students to explore a variety of eras and periods, events, people, places and ideas.
Rationale
VCE History helps students understand the present by exploring the events, ideas, and forces that have shaped the world. Through the study of continuity and change, students develop social, political, economic, and cultural awareness. They learn to analyse historical sources, consider multiple perspectives, and engage with contested interpretations of the past. The course strengthens critical thinking and evidence-based reasoning, encouraging students to form and defend informed views skills essential for active and engaged citizenship.
Business, Marketing and Law
If you’re reading this to learn what jobs or career options are possible with psychology, you may be surprised by how many opportunities you can explore - both in the field of psychology and related fields like Business, Marketing, Advertising and Law.
Health and Medicine
Regardless of the industry understanding what drives people to think, feel and act, provides the perfect place to start in a career as a registered Psychologist or Researcher or Counsellor. Having good communication skills is a huge advantage. These skills are also important for entry-level jobs such as Social and Youth Work.
Education
Jobs in education require great communication skills, which are useful for Teachers, Lecturers, Early Childhood Educators, Careers and Course Advisors, and many more.
Scope
Psychology is a multifaceted discipline that seeks to describe, explain, understand and predict human behaviour and mental processes. It includes many sub-fields of study that explore and seek to better understand how individuals, groups, communities and societies think, feel and act. Students study contemporary research, models and theories to understand how knowledge in psychology has developed and how this knowledge continues to change in response to new evidence and discoveries to solve day-to-day problems and improve psychological wellbeing. Where possible, engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of doing, being and knowing has been integrated into the study, providing students with the opportunity to contrast the Western paradigm of psychology with Indigenous psychology. An understanding of the complexities and diversity of psychology provides students with the opportunity to appreciate the interconnectedness of concepts both within psychology and across psychology and the other sciences.
Rationale
VCE Psychology explores the relationships between thoughts, emotions, and behaviour, helping students understand the biological, psychological, and social factors that influence human experience. Through scientific inquiry, students develop skills to analyse and apply psychological concepts to real-life situations. The study also introduces potential career pathways in areas such as clinical, forensic, health, and educational psychology, as well as broader fields like research, human services, and community support.
Law, Government & Policy
A study of Politics naturally leads to roles in law, public administration, and policymaking. Many students go on to study law, drawn to areas like constitutional law, criminal justice, or environmental regulation. Others join the public service or work in government departments where they help develop, implement, and evaluate policies that shape communities and the nation. From local councils to federal parliament, careers in this area involve leadership, critical thinking, and a commitment to civic responsibility.
Education, Research & Academia
Politics can also take you into the world of education, teaching, or academic research. Whether you’re leading classrooms, writing for political journals, or advising on curriculum and policy, you'll be helping others understand how political systems function and why they matter. Research careers may focus on political theory, comparative politics, or global governance, contributing new insights into how societies manage power and change.
International Relations
Put your diplomacy and communication skills to the test in Politics or International Relations, or make the world a better place through Advocacy, fighting for Human Rights and working to combat Climate Change.
Communications
Use your knowledge of human interaction and behaviour in Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, or Marketing.
These are just some of the pathways you could explore!
Scope
VCE Politics is the study of contemporary power, conflict, and cooperation in a world marked by unpredictability and constant change. Students explore significant political issues and crises—such as climate change, human rights, global inequality, political reform, and economic instability—across Australia, the Indo-Pacific region, and the world. They examine how national and global political actors use power, respond to crises, and influence political systems and outcomes. The subject focuses on analysing the interests, perspectives, and actions of political actors, and the consequences of those actions on political stability and change. Students investigate the complex social, economic, historical, cultural, environmental, technological, and psychological factors that shape political events and governance. They also reflect on the values underpinning liberal democracies, including Australia, and assess the challenges these systems face. Through the study of recent case studies (within the last ten years), students develop the ability to think critically and politically, understand the dynamics of global interconnectedness, and construct informed analyses of contemporary political systems, processes, and events.
Rationale
VCE Politics assists students in understanding their political views and those of others. VCE Politics introduces students to the complexities of Australian society and the contemporary world. It broadens their outlook through examining how political change and decision-making happens and how power may be used. This entails understanding how political actors pursue their interests and the political significance of human agency. The study assists students in becoming informed observers of and active participants in Australia’s political system, and global citizens who are able to think critically about political issues, crises and challenges to democracy. VCE Politics provides students with opportunities to better understand their own rights, responsibilities and participation as national citizens and members of the global community, and to consider their own political agency and the ways they can contribute to participatory democracy and civic engagement.
