Work-Related Skills (WRS) and Personal Development Skills (PDS) can be taken alongside your VCE subjects to strengthen your preparation for life after school. These units provide practical, hands-on learning experiences that complement academic study and build essential employability, leadership, and life skills.
Through WRS, you’ll explore career interests, develop workplace capabilities, and gain confidence in navigating employment pathways. You’ll also learn about workplace safety, teamwork, and communication skills valued by all employers.
PDS helps you grow personally and socially by encouraging resilience, goal setting, and active citizenship. You'll engage in real-world projects that promote wellbeing, leadership, and community involvement supporting you to become a confident, capable young adult. Together, these subjects broaden your learning and provide a strong foundation for future work, training, and personal success.
VCE VM Work Related Skills (WRS) supports students in preparing for employment and further education by developing essential workplace knowledge, practical capabilities, and professional behaviours. The subject complements all areas of VCE by helping students apply their learning in real-world contexts, build transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and goal setting, and gain insight into workplace expectations and rights. Through career research, resume writing, mock interviews, and Structured Workplace Learning, students connect classroom knowledge with professional environments. This subject strengthens students' confidence, adaptability, and self-advocacy—attributes that are highly valued across industries and that enhance readiness for apprenticeships, traineeships, further study, or direct entry into the workforce.
VCE VM Personal Development Skills (PDS) empowers students to explore identity, wellbeing, and active citizenship by examining the connections between individuals and their communities. Focusing on personal growth, social awareness, and community engagement, the subject encourages students to reflect on their values, set goals, and take meaningful action. PDS complements all VCE subjects by building critical and creative thinking, teamwork, communication, and self-management skills—key capabilities that enhance learning across the curriculum and support success in all pathways. Through reflection, research, and real-world projects, students grow in confidence, resilience, and empathy, preparing them to contribute positively to society and succeed in further study, employment, or community roles.
