Advisors, and more.
These are just some of the pathways you could explore!
SCOPE:
VCE English focuses on the how English language is used to create meaning in print and digital texts of varying complexity. Texts selected for study are drawn from the past and present, from Australia and from other cultures, and comprise many text types, including media texts, for analysis of argument. The study is intended to meet the needs of students with a wide range of expectations and aspirations, including those for whom English is an additional language.
RATIONALE:
The study of English equips students with the skills to read, write, speak, and listen effectively across a range of contexts. VCE English fosters critical and creative thinking, encouraging students to engage with the world thoughtfully and empathetically. Through diverse texts including those reflecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives students explore a range of ideas and experiences. They refine their ability to analyse and create texts with purpose and clarity, developing strong communication skills that prepare them to participate confidently in a complex, multicultural society.
VCE VM Literacy builds essential communication and critical thinking skills through practical, hands-on learning. Students develop confidence in everyday literacy tasks, such as reading workplace documents, using digital platforms, and creating professional communications, while also strengthening their digital literacy for research and online interaction.
Students engage with real-world issues, learning to analyse different perspectives and present their own well-reasoned viewpoints through written work and oral presentations. By connecting literacy learning directly to vocational contexts and career interests, this subject provides the strong foundation in communication skills that employers value and that students need for success in apprenticeships, traineeships, further study, or direct entry into the workforce.
The Language and Literature course explores the power of language in communication, expression, and shaping meaning. Students examine how language choices, text types, and contexts influence interpretation, while analysing texts through both personal and critical perspectives shaped by culture and belief systems.
