Digital Storytelling
Become a Cadet
What if you were told that there was a dynamic, structured FREE youth program that offered Canadian youth a variety of interesting and challenging activities?
What if you were told that this same program developed in youth an increased level of self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-awareness?
REFLECTION ON DIGITAL STORYTELLING
Video editing in iMovie has given me the ability to present any story digitally, and even create my own digital photo albums to any new technological inventions like military robot soldiers. We were provided with a Digital Storytelling Storyboard that really helped me to develop my story chronologically. It also had links of royalty free music downloads and how to give credits to the rightful owner & developer of different digital files as an APA format that I used to create my digital story.
Here is a reflection of my above digital storytelling video editing experience:
A Brief Explanation of the Technology: My preference to use technology for Digital Storytelling was to make around one minute long digital movie by using iMovie maker. It has all the user-friendly utilities that we find in Windows' Movie Maker. I downloaded free Music from a Royalty Free music website. The type of digital music I preferred for this digital storytelling is high pace, high energy different types of military tunes which go well with the topic of my digital story i.e., Royal Canadian Navy, Army and Air Cadets' free program being offered by the Government of Canada under National Defence.
The Goal of the Artifact produced, Subject & Grade: This Digital Story is produced about a free "Canadian Youth's Cadets Program" funded by "Department of National Defence" for ages 12-18 years. The target audience for this particular artifact is Canadian youth and adolescence (ages 12 - 18 years).
Reflection on ease/difficulty of learning and use of Technology: It was very interesting lab learning "How to make an iMovie (AKA: Digital Storytelling) in MP4 format" by using Windows Movie Maker or iMovie maker. There was lot of information to squish in around one minute's digital movie with music. It was quite a transition of switching from one operating system to another (Windows Movie Maker to iMovie maker). Previous experience with "Windows Movie Maker" made it very enjoyable and a great learning experience.
Possible Uses in Education: The digital movie making and storytelling I learnt, will certainly help me in different scenarios with in my future teaching and training development assignments at Canadian Forces. I can use this format in conventional classroom settings, in any indoor and outdoor settings including DL (Distant Learning) environments and on-the-go devices as well as in virtual classroom setting, and many other possible uses where ever instructions and information can be disseminated digitally.
