Let's learn how to use ShapesXR.
While the sample spaces on the ShapesXR tutorial main page will teach you how to use ShapesXR inside VR, this page serves as a reference to help you understand how to use it on the website.
➤ Basic Action
Open/close menu panel
Press the menu icon on the left controller.
Teleport
Tilt forward and hold the joystick on the dominant-hand controller until the light blue curved beam appears to activate the teleportation tool. Point to the destination you want to teleport. Press the trigger button on the dominant-hand controller to teleport. Once you are done with teleporting, tilt the joystick down.
Move
To move, press and hold the grip button on the non-dominant-hand controller and move the controller forward/backward.
Change the view scale & angle of the view
Press and hold the grip buttons of both of the controllers to scale your view relative to the scene. When you move the controllers closer together or farther apart, the scale of the scene will change relative to your viewpoint. Check this ShapesXR official document page for details.
Transform Objects
Press and hold the tool button on your dominant-hand controller. Move your hand horizontally, and choose the "Select" tool. Point to the object you want to adjust with the dominant-hand controller and press the trigger button.
Grab the yellow cube with the grip button on the right hand, and slide it diagonally to adjust the size
Grab Objects
Press and hold the grip button on your dominant-hand controller.
Delete Objects
Grab the object using the dominant-hand grip button and throw it.
Undo Redo
Press the left-arrow button on your non-dominant hand controller to undo your previous action. right-arrow button to redo.
➤ Features used to build exhibition
Add objects
The goal of this step is to add those primitive objects that we will use to create exhibition space.
On your left controller, click the menu button.
Select Assets > Library > 3D primitives.
Point to the objects you want to use. Press and hold the grip button of the dominant-hand controller, and pull it to the space, then release the button.
Adjust the size/position/angle of the objects
The goal of this step is to create an exhibition space like the image below using the objects you just added by adjusting their position/scale/rotation.
Press the pen & rule button of your dominant-hand controller, move your hand horizontally, and hover over the Select tool. Point out the object you want to adjust with the trigger button of the dominant-hand cotroller. The gizmo (guide that helps you to move, rotate, and scale objects) appears.
If you don't see it, press the menu button on the left controller, go to the Select icon > Object tab, and set the gizmo as Local.
Adjust scale/rotation/position.
< Scale >
Grab the yellow small cube with the dominant-hand grip button. Drag it to adjust the scale. If you want to change the scale of one dimension, select one of the white dots and drag it.
< Rotate >
Grab the curved line with the grip button on your right hand. Drag it to adjust.
< Position >
Grab the arrow with the grip button of your dominant hand. Drag it to adjust.
You can also use the panel on the left side to set the numeral value.
Also, you can also change the position and rotation by directly grabbing the object with the grip button.
Change the color of the objects
Here, change the color of objects.
Press the pen & tool button on your dominant-hand controller, move your hand horizontally, and hover over the Color tool.
Pick a color with the trigger button on your dominant-hand controller.
Point out the object you want to apply the color with the trigger button on your dominant-hand controller.
Also, you can also change the position and rotation by directly grabbing the object with the grip button.
Add text
The goal of this step is to add exhibition title on your wall like this.
Press the pen & ruler button, move your hand horizontally, and hover over the Text tool.
Press and hold the trigger button and drag it to create a text box.
Adjust the text. Type in any words you want. On the left panel, select font color and adjust font size.
Adjust the size of the text box by selecting the blue cube pointer with the trigger button.
Grab the text box with the grip button and adjust the position of the text box.
Import uploaded files
The goal of this step is to import the files you uploaded on the ShapesXR website like this.
On your left controller, click the menu button.
Select Assets > My Files
You will see the uploaded files and Figma links. Select one using the trigger button.
You will see the preview of the selected asset. Grab it by pressing the grip button of your dominant-hand controller and pulling it to the space.
