ShapesXR is a 3D prototyping tool used for various purposes, including game design, UI/UX design, scene planning, and more. This tutorial will help you learn the basics of ShapesXR through creating your own exhibition space.
In ShapesXR, you can design amazing 3D prototypes like the examples shown below. Once you complete this experience, you'll be ready to explore further on your own and incorporate it into your creative practice!

⚠️ Before we start...
ShapesXR is constantly updating, so screenshots and navigation may not reflect the most up-to-date version. In such cases, please check their official website for the latest information.
Accept the invitation and set up account
➤ Request your ShapesXR account & borrow VR headset
Send an email to Pratt VR admins to request your ShapesXR account and borrow the headset using this Email template. Allow about 1-2 business days for them to reply.
Pratt VR Admin:
ADMIN NAME (SAMPLE@pratt.edu)
➤ Setup a ShapesXR account
Check the Pratt email and click Accept invitation. It takes you to ShapesXR website. Input your name, answer questions and continue.
Create a copy of our guided sample spaces that include multimodal inside-VR tutorials.
In this tutorial, you will use 2 sample ShapesXR files that include tutorial materials. In this step, we will duplicate the original file so that you can use the copied version.

Create your own exhibition!
➤ Duplicate the practice spaces
You will duplicate our practice space which includes the sample of exhibition space and written & audio instruction audio. You can edit the copy of the space.
Click the practice minigame space. Then, click the 3 dots icon of the sample file, then click Duplicate.
Click the 3 dots icon of the copied file, then click Rename. Rename to the following.

Click the close icon at the top left corner. Then, Go to Shared with me. Click the 3 dots icon of the original sample file, then click Leave. This is to make sure that you won't edit the original file.
Repeat the same steps (from duplicating to leaving the space) for this link to the sample exhibition space.
This time, rename to the following.

Practice the basics of ShapesXR through 3 mini-games in the guided sample space.
➤ Pair your ShapesXR account with the headset
On VR Wear your VR headset. Press the Meta logo button on the right controller. In the bottom bar, select Library. Then, select ShapesXR.
If you don't find the menu panel or the panel is too far, press and hold the Meta logo button.
On VR Select Search in the top left corner. Type in ShapesXR and select it.
If it's not installed, install it.
On VR Once you open ShapesXR, you might see the official tutorial. You can skip it by selecting the Skip buttons using the trigger button on your index finger.
The first time the app is opened after installation or after clearing the cache, the tutorial is displayed.
On VR Select Login using your dominant -hand trigger button.
If someone has already logged in and you don't see the code, please log out first.
On VR Remember the code displayed on the VR headset.
On PC Take off the VR headset and go to the ShapesXR website on your browser. Click Pair a headset. The input code dialog will pop up. Then, input the code.
➤ Open the copy of minigame space
On VR Wear your VR headset again. Go to Spaces > My Spaces tab. Select the following by pressing the trigger button on your right hand.

⚠️ After selecting the space, it may take about 1 minute to load all objects. During this time, the space might feel glitchy or disorienting. Please wait for it to load without pressing any buttons or moving. You can remove the headset while waiting.
If the objects have an aurora-like effect, they are still loading.
➤ Where to start inside the space?
On VR Find the yellow panel with Start here. It is located in front of you.
On VR Please read and follow the instructions on the Start wall from left to right. At the end of the wall, you will play the first introduction audio.
On VR After playing the intro audio instruction, please follow the instructions for each step inside the space.
Now you are ready. Put on the headset and try the minigame yourself!
The sample ShapesXR space provides a guided introduction to ShapesXR, so you can start learning in VR right away! If you prefer to learn on the website first, check this reference.
Upload the files of portfolio pieces to ShapesXR.
Welcome back! In this step, you will upload the portfolio pieces that you will showcase in the exhibition to the ShapesXR portal website. We have the sample files for you but you can use your own files if you prefer.
➤ Upload the local files to ShapesXR portal
Download the sample files below. Alternatively, if you prefer to use your own pieces, check this page to gather your files on your local computer.
Go to ShapesXR website. Go to the My files tab > Import > Browse and select the files you want to show in the VR exhibition.
➤ Upload Figma to ShapesXR portal (Optional)
If you are interested in uploading Figma files, please check the steps on this page. If you are not familiar with Figma or don't have time, you can skip!
Now, it's time to build your own exhibition space!
➤ Open the copy of workspace space
Wear your VR headset again. Go to Spaces > My spaces tab. Select the following by pressing the trigger button on your right hand.

➤ Clearing Cache
Wear your headset and start MetaQuest.
Go to Library. Search & select Settings. Then select
Select the checkbox of ShapesXR. Then, Select Clear App Data.
➤ Optimize Imported Files (If you are importing your own files)
Check whether the imported files are below the technical limits referring to this page. If they exceed ShapesXR's recommendation, try optimizing the files. (Everything You Need to Know About the Optimization of 3D Assets?)
Press the menu button.
Select Back to Lobby.
