Welcome to Beach's School Counseling & Social Work Website

Hello! I am Katrina de Boer, Beach's school counselor. This is my 7th year at Beach and my 13th year as a school counselor. Prior to my work as a school counselor, I worked as a therapist, case manager and program manager in programs supporting adults experiencing severe mental health concerns and as special education teacher in Washington, DC.

The Beach School Counseling Program strives to foster a welcoming school community where the all the people are appreciative, accepting, compassionate and kind, and where students feel empowered to actively improve their community.

This work includes teaching students about racial equity and social justice. It is my responsibility to help to create an equitable educational experience for all our students.

In my spare time I love to run, read, backpack, knit, and spend time with my family. I also work hard at keeping my ridiculously large collection of houseplants alive.

I look forward to working with you and your children. Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns about your child's well-being and school experience.

I am so happy to be part of our community!

Hi! I'm Rhys Neary-Hills, Beach's school social worker! This is my 5th year working at Beach, and I am so fortunate to be a part of the Beach community. Before coming to Beach, I worked in an independent living program for youth coming out of corrections, so I have spent a lot of my work helping youth build their skills and work on emotional management.

My passions include equity and social justice work, gardening, and TV family sitcoms.

I am so glad to be able to continue to support all our whole Beach community. My role as a social worker extends from suicide prevention to restorative justice to resource navigation. I want to ensure that all of our students and families have everything they need to thrive. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me!
