Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
At Beach we use the Collaborative for Academic, Social, Academic, and Emotional Learning’s (CASEL) integrated framework to promote 5 core competencies associated with social and emotional learning. These competencies are embedded in all of the SEL work that we do.
Because we are profoundly committed to doing a better job at confronting racism and the role we play in perpetuating it in our school, we will be explicitly teaching anti-racism and anti-bias lessons to all students in addition to embedding this work across all subject areas. This work is critical to helping create a safe and inclusive school for all students.
We are very excited to be adding affinity groups to our Beach Community this school year. We will have a Black Student Union, Latino/a Student Union, Asian Student Union, and a Native Student Union. Additionally, we will have a Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) and a Justice Club.
