Artists will sketch a small drawing each day, using a different prompt each time. In addition to a drawing task, the slide provided includes a visual example, academic art vocabulary, introduction to an artist, and a quote. This practice is important to envision artwork and develop ideas.
Artists will slowly be introduced to materials available in the Studio. Each introduction will include a demonstration, short task, and Studio Check to ensure students can describe how tools, materials, and techniques should be used effectively. Once artists prove proficient in the Studio Check, the studio is open for them to use going forward. Below are some of our 5th grade artists favorite Studios:

We used to call these tasks "Exit Tickets," but we don't always complete them at the end of the day, so I changed to title to "Skill Check". These quick mini worksheets are based on the Elements of Art. Understanding these formal elements allows artists to communicate in a common language about how work is created, understood, and valued. The Skill Checks allow me to determine if there are gaps in understanding, and if there are places where we can cruise right along.
Artists will learn to document and organize their daily work. Along with STEAM, we will practice digital literacy skills using the Google Suite. This allows the artist to document and discuss the process of making art. Parents will be able to view their child's work and teacher feedback if they are listed as a Guardian in Google Classroom.
In 5th Grade, Google Classroom is used to submit Daily Work. We also use GC to manage deadlines and communicate feedback on student work. You can request to be a guardian on your child's Google Classroom by sending me an email at acraw@poynette.k12.wi.us
