In Middle School Art we focus heavily on perseverance, on continuing to try even when presented with challenges. With this in mind, middle schoolers are assessed on their art-making skills, as well as their understanding of artistic concepts, and their communication about art and artists. Our grading rubric allows for proficiency in most standards for students who understand the basics and persevere through mistakes.
We provide everything your child needs to be successful in the studio. Because we share our studio space with 280+ artists, these provided supplies are expected to be well-maintained and used responsibly. This will allow you and your classmates to explore your artistic skills with quality materials.
Often students become enthralled with one material or another. When this happens I will add information and links to the Art at Home tab. Most recently our artists are enjoying needle felting and 3D Pens.
All art students will document their daily work on Google Slides. This is a vital tool for recording your growth throughout your middle-school career, so you need to be consistent about taking photos of your work. We practice these skills for multiple reasons, the first being accountability. Artists work at varying paces, and that's okay, however we need to be responsible for making progress each day. Second, using technology in multiple ways expands your knowledge of this tool, better preparing you for high school work and beyond. Finally, responsible use of cameras, reflecting on progress using technical language, and meeting deadlines are skills that taught while documenting your daily work.
Photos of your work MUST be added to your Daily Work slides at the end of every class!
Please use Google Classroom for Progress Checks and assignment due dates. It will act as a calendar for students, and a collection point for Daily Work. This website will also be a valuable resource. Photos of student work MUST be posted to their art portfolio in Google Classroom.
Please see the Grading for Learning page for more information.
Students will have weekly feedback in Infinite Campus regarding these behavior expectations: "Puts forth effort to produce quality work" AND "Meets classroom expectations".
Please see the Grading for Learning page for more information.
