Current AVID Breakdown
Seniors: Class of 2021
Seniors are currently off-trimester but are busy completing their college applications, scholarship applications, and continued research into their future plans. We recently held a FAFSA night for all parents and students to attend, which was a great success! We hosted the director of Cal-SOAP, as well as two representatives of UCSD's Financial aid department. We are looking forward to maximizing our digital exhibitions to show off the culmination of hard-work over the past several years.
Juniors: Class of 2022
Juniors are focusing on their future planning including their career research paper that will allow them to focus on what university, major, and career they will be seeking. In addition they are completing Tutorials and keeping their binders up to date. Financial literacy focuses on loans and making smart choices when paying for college.
Sophomores: Class of 2023
Our 10th graders are building on the Rhetoric skills with an examination of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream Speech" and their own mini-debates. These skills can be applied in any and all current or future classes, as well as SAT/ACT preparation, AP response preparation, job interviews, and analytical skill building.
Like the freshmen, the sophomores will also be completing the organizational checks and twice-weekly tutorial sessions. Unlike the freshmen, the sophomores will begin a basic understanding of financial literacy.
Freshmen: Class of 2024
Freshmen are beginning the start of their University Choice and Major research by utilizing Xello. They will also participate in their first high school Socratic Seminar and Philosophical Chair sessions, which helps encourage leadership ideals, preparation, and implementation of guided research. There is continued development of digital literacy throughout the year.
Students will also continue with tutorials, grade checks, and binder checks as part of their weekly assessments in organization, in addition to further developing study skills.
