Red Nose Day 2022!
Well done to our P7 pupils for organizing such a fun Friday.
We baked cupcakes...
decorated them...
Played Shinty...
Jailbreak...
and jump the river.
Even had a fantastic quiz with prizes!
For Mrs B's STEM science class we created rockets!
Each pupil took it in turns to set up a rocket.
There were some tense moment's while we waited for the chemical reaction!
We think Elgol Primary school is probably a lot like other schools...but sometimes we have days where the head teacher emails to say- " look out for Orca they have been spotted at Rum" and lunch break is spent gathered round the window watching the sea....some of our pupils were lucky enough to spot John Coe and Aquarius swim past!

Silver shinty success for 2 of our P5 pupils who took part in the Skye indoor shinty tournament.
And 2 more silver medals for 2 of our P7 pupils. Well done everyone.

We have created a library space in the small classroom which pupils have been enjoying particularly in this colder weather.

A break in the weather allowed us to get out and do a beach clean.
Pupils were collecting rubbish as part of there online lesson with Marine Conservation Scotland.
Pupils helped to categories the different sorts of rubbish and find out about the impact it has on marine life.
Whilst on our beach clean we found this dead puffin which pupils told the leader of the marine conservation session about. She investigated further and found out that -
You may have heard that there were large numbers of dead puffins washed ashore in Northeast Scotland, Orkney and Shetland last November and December. These were after Storms Arwen and Barra. The west coast escaped these storms and before your picture I had heard of only three other puffins found dead in west Scotland this winter. One was on Islay, one was on Lewis and one at Loch Brittle on Skye. The last bird had been ringed on the Farne Island in Northeast England in 2014.
Badminton
Pupils enjoyed 2hrs of badminton coaching yesterday for their PE lesson.
Jane from Badminton Scotland taught the session.
Badminton is a sport that's always enjoyed by our pupils.
Jane's session taught them lots of new skills and there was noticeable improvement in everyone's ability after the lesson.

Pupils showed great focus in following the instructions to assemble the catapults.
Gardening update! even in this grey weather our onions and garlic have started to grow . All the pupils are making sure to keep watering them as part of their class responsibilities.

Our Business enterprise project has been a great success. We have learnt about the different aspects of running a business and the roles required such as - Chairperson - Finance- Marketing - Sales- Ordering officer.
We delivered our first batch of 50 decorations to be sold at the Christmas fayre in Broadford
We worked very hard on hand painting wooden slices each pupil having to replicate there painting more than 10 times!
The pupils are keeping an eye on the finances and will decide on how they would like to spend the final profit!
STEM has been the classroom focus this term.
Pupils have had a visit from RAF Stem coordinator.
We really enjoyed learning about coding .
Using the Spheros was great fun too!
We joined Broadford Primary at An Crùbh for a Newton Room session with the Science Skills Academy.
Pupils worked in teams with some familiar faces!
We worked with Lego robots and developed our coding skills.
The pupils had a great time and were fantastic at applying their math's knowledge to the practical task of making the robots move.
We have been reading Wilderness Wars in class.
This inspired our islands project.
Each pupil creating and designing their own island.
We used paper mache, clay and foam board.
If you look closely you will see rivers, beaches, bike trails, small buildings and even boats!
We spent Children in Need day baking these lovely cupcakes.
Thank you for all the donations we raised £80 in total.
Our Halloween costumes infront of our Halloween wall some decorations are from last year some are from this year created in class and some are created at breaks when the weather is too bad to go outside.

This year we managed to harvest well over a hundred apples from our two smallest apple trees.

Staff and Pupils at Elgol Primary have now started to use the Elgol Village hall for PE again following a period of 18 months where this was not possible!

Each year we select a range of local and national charities to support.
We are very lucky to have our own poly tunnel. This year we have grown carrots, peas, tomatoes, strawberries, broad beans and we even have our own grape vine.
