All parents of children at Elgol Primary School are automatically members of the Parent Council. In such a small community, there is plenty of scope for parents to share news and views informally at the school gates, the Village Hall or wherever we bump into each other. The Parent Council also holds a formal meeting, attended by school staff, once a term and an Annual General Meeting in the autumn.
The main aims of the Parent Council are:
– to promote and provide a channel for communication among parents and between parents and the school.
– to support the school, including by fundraising and helping to engage the wider community in school events and activities.
The Parent Council also pays for Elgol children in Primary 7 to participate in the annual Skye schools Primary 7 trip.
Scottish Parent Teacher Council – SPTC is the national organization for parents’ groups in Scottish schools. They offer help and advice to all parents.
National Parent Forum of Scotland – The NPFS was set up to give Parent Councils and Parents an opportunity to discuss and raise educational issues of mutual interest or concerns at a national level.
ParentClub – a useful site for all parents and carers.
