Teachers will offer a range of ways to participate in class, such as: small group discussions, chat, whole class discussions, EdPuzzles, Nearpods, and PearDeck presentations.

For Parents:

Communicate with your child's advisor and their teachers when you have questions or concerns (via email, talking points, google hangouts, etc.).

What can you expect from teachers?

Teachers will check in with students about how they're doing and make a note of what's going well. Together we'll problem solve about attendance and missing work, and make sure we keep Infinite Campus up to date.

Teachers will also reach out to advisors, social workers, counselors, and deans when other interventions have failed.

Student Expectations

  • Students should be attending all their classes at the scheduled times. If they are not in class and checking in with their teacher during the class time, they will be marked absent. NOTE: A student who has no video on and never responds to questions will be marked absent. Contact your teacher if tech issues are preventing you from participating.

  • If you’re having trouble getting into classes at the scheduled time, contact your teacher. You should already be in all of your Google Classrooms, and if not, your teachers and advisor can help give you those codes.

  • You will have a daily video call with each teacher, where they will introduce material for the day. If you join before the teacher, you will have to wait, but your video should automatically start once the teacher joins.

  • If you are sick and unable to participate in online learning, your parents should call the school. It is important to tell the school if you are absent because of illness or another reason.

  • Make sure you check your school email regularly, as teachers and staff are communicating with you there.

  • You can make appointments to meet with your teachers during Student Learning Center. You can make these appointments using the WinnME system.

  • Students should read daily feedback from teachers and ask questions when they have them.

Parents are invited to check in with their student’s teachers by email at any time for progress updates and questions. If you are unsure of the best way to contact a teacher, email our admin team: Alyson Dame (damea@portlandschools.org); Abdullahi Ahmed (ahmeda@portlandschools.org); Jim Moses (mosesj@portlandschools.org).
