Dear LCE Families,
We hope you had a wonderful weekend!
We’re looking forward to seeing many of you this Wednesday morning for Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day and Donuts with Grown Ups from 8:00–8:30 a.m. As a reminder, Donuts with Grown Ups is not a drop-off event—students should still enter through their regular entrances at the normal arrival time.
If your child isn’t able to participate in Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day on Wednesday but would like to another day this week, that’s great! They can stop by to see Mrs. Kitchen any day this week to receive their sticker and shoe charm.
We have a busy and exciting month ahead with several events taking place outside of the school day. Along with Wednesday’s events, we’ll have a Dine Out Night at Erbelli’s on Monday, October 13, and we’ll wrap up the month with our Trunk or Treat at LCE on Wednesday, October 30, from 6:00–7:00 p.m.
A huge thank-you to our PTO for organizing these fun opportunities and to all of our families for your ongoing support. Check out the updates below for more details on each event—we hope to see you there!
Have a fantastic week!

PPS is seeking a new bond to finish the job at our elementary schools!
Voters will be asked to consider a $132.4 million bond proposal in the November election to finish replacing three of our oldest schools, modernize another, and update vital technology and services to serve PPS students for years to come, all with no increase in the 2024 millage rate
Why make this request? The COVID-19 pandemic upended supply chains, causing high inflation (especially building materials, equipment and labor) and construction delays.
Here is what the new bond would cover:
Build the new Amberly Elementary School and the new Angling Road Elementary School – the last two elementary buildings to be replaced.
Renovate Moorsbridge Elementary School.
Replace PCEC to support Community High School and Early Childhood Education.
Continue important updates to educational and safety technology.
Replace buses that have outlived their mechanical lives.
Request your absentee ballot online at mvic.sos.state.mi.us/AVApplication or plan to vote Nov. 4. You can learn more about the 2025 Bond at portageps.org/2025bond.

We are so thankful to have Orville as part of our school community! An important reminder we are working on with students and staff is that when Orville is out walking on the leash, he should not be pet. We have scheduled time for him to have direct contact with students with trained staff members. If you see Orville in the building or outside, please feel free to give him a wave but avoid touching him. Thank you for your help in ensuring we keep Orville trained to help support students!
