Dear LCE Families,
We hope this message finds you well and that you’ve enjoyed a wonderful summer. With the new school year quickly approaching, preparations for welcoming students back into the building are moving full speed ahead. The first week of school is always an exciting time as we get to know our students and families, while also discovering the routines and practices that work best.
Our goals for the first week include:
Building connections and friendships with classmates
Practicing and settling into daily routines
Understanding and practicing school-wide expectations
Thank you in advance for your patience as staff and bus drivers work to ensure all Lake Center learners arrive to and from school safely.
Please make sure to review our arrival and dismissal procedures document below.
Monday, August 25 – Half Day, Noon Dismissal
No School – Friday, August 29 and Monday, September 1 (Labor Day Holiday)
All exterior doors remain locked throughout the day. Our entrances have been updated where visitors will need to be buzzed in through the exterior doors. In order to enter into Lake Center, please ring the bell to the right of the front exterior doors, which allows us to buzz you into the main office.
Visitors must sign their child out through the main office and present photo identification.
Anyone picking up a child must be listed as an approved contact in Skyward.
Visitors will only be allowed to enter the building if the teacher has confirmed the visit.
For safety reasons, only staff and students are permitted in the building during arrival and dismissal
A background check (with photo ID) is required before volunteering may begin.
ALICE is a protocol designed to help staff and students respond safely in emergency situations. It is not a sequential process but a framework for options.
All Lake Center teachers and staff have been trained in ALICE procedures.
More information about ALICE can be found here: ALICE Training.

Our school will hold several ALICE drills throughout the year, including barricade and evacuation drills. This will be our district’s 8th year participating in ALICE protocols.
We are committed to being fully present with students during the school day. For this reason, phone calls and emails will be returned within 24 hours of the day they are received. Messages sent on Fridays will be addressed on the following school day.
We look forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing together at Lake Center Elementary!
Orville is excited to be back to school and working! He had a busy summer so we will take the next few weeks for him to adjust being back to work. An important reminder we are working on with students and staff is that when Orville is out walking on the leash, he should not be pet. We have scheduled time for him to have direct contact with students with trained staff members. If you see Orville in the building or outside, please feel free to give him a wave but avoid touching him. Thank you for your help in ensuring we keep Orville trained to help support students!
