The Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) offers a range of internal funding schemes, supported through the Faculty’s QR funding allocation, to support academic colleagues in developing their research, innovation and impact activities. 

The overall budget is allocated across the different funding schemes to support the Faculty’s strategic research priorities and contribute to preparations for the REF submission. This includes supporting the development of high-quality research outputs, impact and engagement activities, research environment and culture, as well as collaboration, networking and practice research. The allocation is intended to ensure that the available QR funding is targeted towards activities that strengthen the Faculty’s research profile and support its REF objectives.

Please read the full call details, eligibility criteria and application form for the relevant scheme carefully and ensure that all proposed expenditure is eligible under the relevant scheme. Please allow sufficient time for the application to be reviewed before the activity begins.

1. Research Teaching Relief Scheme

The CCI Research Teaching Relief Scheme provides a short period of teaching relief during TB2 and/or the summer break of the 2026–27 academic year.

Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements set out in the call, including being on a permanent academic contract with a 0.2 FTE provision for research. A conversation with the Head of School is essential before applying, and applications without Head of School support will not be considered.

2. Research Outputs Advancement Fund (ROAF)

The CCI Research Outputs Advancement Fund supports the production of high-quality research outputs of all kinds, including practice research, ahead of the 2028 census for REF2029.

Applicants should clearly explain the contribution the funding will make to REF2029, the expected output, its anticipated publication or dissemination date, and the scholarly significance, originality and rigour of the research.

Funding: Up to £3,000 per awardee. One award per applicant per academic year.

Deadline: Friday 28 May 2027

3. R&I Networking and Bid Support Scheme

The CCI Research & Innovation Networking and Bid Support Scheme supports networking events at the University of Portsmouth or London Campus involving external invitees.

Funding: Up to £2,000 per application.

Deadline: Friday 28 May 2027

Maximum number of awards: Six events through this call.

4. Impact Fund

The CCI Impact Fund supports activities and resources that contribute to the development of research impact and Impact Case Studies.

Applicants should provide a clear justification for the resources requested and demonstrate how the proposed expenditure will contribute to impact development.

Deadline: Friday 28th May 2027

Applications are considered by the CCI Impact Leads, and CCI Research Leadership Group which meets monthly.

5. Conference & Exhibition Support Fund

The CCI Research & Innovation Conference Support Fund is open to academic staff whose contract includes provision for research and/or innovation work.

The scheme supports conference activity and has also been widened to include costs associated with exhibition or performance work, supporting colleagues undertaking practice research.

Applicants should ensure that proposed activity aligns with their agreed research plan and provide sufficiently detailed and accurate costings.

Please note that retrospective applications are not eligible.

Deadline: Friday 28th May 2027 for conference activity within the relevant 2026–27 funding period.
