A little bit of history ...

For generations, PMHA has provided local children with the opportunity to learn the game, build friendships, develop confidence and create memories that last a lifetime. As a small community association, we are proud of the people who have volunteered their time, coached our teams, organized programs and supported our players along the way. Their dedication has helped shape PMHA into the association it is today.

While hockey continues to evolve, our commitment remains the same: Put kids first, build a strong hockey community and make sure every player has the opportunity to learn, grow and have fun!

Where is all began ...

South Porcupine Arena

"The Barn" 1939

Built in 1939 and opened in 1940, by the Dome Mine, as an upgrade to the South Porcupine Arena, originally built in 1926. Affectionately named "The Barn" by locals.

In its early years, the Dome supplied its own staff carpenters, mechanics and labourers to look after structural repairs, refrigeration components and general facility maintenance.

Local youth, nicknamed "Rink Rats" performed day to day labour such as sweeping stands, cleaning the ice surface and cleaning dressing rooms - in exchange for free ice time.

"The Barn"

In 2010, ownership was handed over for $1 from the Dome Mine to the newly formed, volunteer-run, South Porcupine Arena Association.

In 2011, the arena was officially renamed to honor a beloved local sporting figure and longtime newspaper columnist, Mr. Carlo Cattarello.

Today, The Barn is managed by past rink rat, longtime employee and lifelong South Porcupine resident, Mr. Burt St. Amour.

As of 2026, Burt is in his 45th year as a proud employee of The Barn.
