About Mrs. Z

School Counselor  / Counseling Services

Hello! Welcome to my school counseling website. This school year (2023-24), I begin my 25th year as a school counselor, with most years being with the Pleasanton Unified School District. Before coming to Pleasanton, I was a middle school counselor in San Leandro. I received my Master of Arts in Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services credential at Sonoma State after my Bachelor of Arts from California State University, Chico.  Over the years in my career, I have had the extreme pleasure of working with students and families Tk-12 including alternative education/continuation high school.

School Counseling

The school counseling program is delivered via classroom lessons and small group counseling sessions throughout the school year. Topics include, academic support, college and career readiness, and personal/social counseling. Elementary counseling has a strong emphasis on direct service of support for social emotional and personal growth. Personal/social support and counseling sessions assists students to understand themselves, the rights and needs of others, conflict resolution, and encourages individual goal setting to help support academic success.

As a school counseling professional in an educational setting, my goal is to support academic achievement for all students. I work closely with our school specialist team and administration to provide support for students in the school setting.  All students have access to counseling via their general education program.  As part of the Counseling Master Plan (CMP), all students will also be accessing the School Counselor, through delivery of classroom lessons that will build skills to prepare them for college, careers, and beyond. Through a combination of school wide interventions, small group counseling, and necessary crisis intervention, school counselors are able reach all students during their elementary years.

Contact Me

Contact with families is important in the elementary setting. Please feel free to reach and call or email me if you would like to talk or set up a time to discuss your student.

I am in classrooms and working with students daily so a scheduled appointment is the best way to meet with me. I am happy to speak to families in person, via zoom, or phone appointments.
