Some of us may not be familiar with the rules to basketball. Below are some videos that help explain the basic rules to the game.
Create your own dribble drills outside.
Make sure you aren't smacking the ball! Use your fingers to push the ball back to the ground.
Try to keep the ball around waist level or below!
Remember to keep your eyes up!
For those of you just starting out, try to stick to the basics and practicing the above tips! We are all at different skill levels so create a routine that works for YOU! If you know of other dribble drills, use those as well!
The videos below range from beginner (top) to advanced (bottom)!
Some ideas for your dribble drills:
Place cones in a straight line. Start at one side and weave in and out of the cones. Try a dribble move (crossover, between the legs, behind the back) at each cone. Try to do your weave while dribbling 2 balls!
Dribble a ball with one hand while tossing a tennis ball into the air with your other hand.
Practice switching speeds while dribbling. Practice going side to side and backwards while dribbling.
While dribbling through cones, have a family member stand at the end and have them hold up a number of fingers, try to call out what the number is. This will help you get your eyes up while dribbling.
Practice getting low and dribbling close to the ground.
Below are some different videos to help your shooting form. Even if you do not have a basketball at home, you can still practice getting your form right! If you do not have a goal at home, you could head over to the STEAM Projects page to see how to make your own hoop!
