About Us
What We Are:
Our Parkway West High School Robotics Program is an after-school co-curricular activity that advances STEM education in our community. Our robotics program supports three highly competitive teams and a non-competitive group under one roof.
Why We Do What We Do:
Positively impact students’ attitudes towards STEM concepts, classes, and career choices
Empower and enable students to work more within their passions and strengths
Help prepare our future workforce and prime the STEM career pipeline
How We Do What We Do:
Engage students in authentic, student-centered, team-based experiential learning
Enable educational experiences that cultivate critical and creative thinking, motivation, data driven decisions, and the ability to work collaboratively
Competitive teams prepare for the VEX Robotics Competitions and participate in tournaments at the local, regional, state, and international levels (more detail below).
Our non-competitive group participates in STEM design challenges and choice projects (more detail below).
Who We Are:
Students
We’re proud of the diversity of our teams in ages (grades 9-12), abilities (beginner to advanced), and gender and ethnicity (56% female & underrepresented students, 44% male caucasian students). Diverse teams are innovative teams; innovative teams are diverse teams.
Top soft skills desired include: critical thinking, analysis, problem solving, communication, collaboration, and teamwork
Top technical skills desired include: strategic thinking (e.g. game play), use of the design process, drawing, design, documentation, organization & inventory, coding, 3D modeling, research & development, and mechanical/building
Top character traits desired: humility, servant's heart, open & outward mindset, integrity, patience, curiosity, intrinsically motivated, self-reliant, passion, and grit.

2025-26 Membership Fees
Competitive Team ($400 per person) - Offsets the cost of competition-specific equipment, initial team registrations, local/regional competition event registrations, and branding.
Non-competitive Group ($200 per person) - Offsets the cost of non-competitive robotics equipment; specialty project equipment; access to 3D printer, laser cutter, and materials; and branding
The membership fee will be applied to the accepted student's Infinite Campus account after membership application/selection.
Families will submit payment online via Infinite Campus. Log in, go to 'More', then click 'Online Payments'.
The 2025-26 membership fee supports the team's desire to increase activity and high-profile competitions, make more specialty equipment available to members, and adjust to increased equipment and material costs. Membership fee increases are evaluated and adjusted annually.
PLEASE NOTE: Additional fees may apply to competitive team members when we participate in signature events, qualify for the state tournament, and/or advance to international competitions. If we must take a bus to any competition, the same applies. We will keep additional costs as low as possible.

2025-26 Robotics Team Season:
Open spots for a competitive team and the non-competitive group are limited and fill fast (TBD based upon number of returning and interested members, strength of applications, etc.).
The membership application process, membership expectations, and dates/times of meetings will be discussed during interest meetings.
Competitive robotics team members should expect to meet 4-8 hours minimum per week plus events with assigned roles/tasks in relation to the current VEX Robotics Competition. All competitive team members should expect to meet one day per week after school on campus during a regularly scheduled meeting (with a minimum of 90% attendance).
Non-competitive group members have the liberty of more flexible attendance with flexible projects based upon personal interests.
The number of robotics competitions this school year is TBD (in-person only). WHS competition activity is expected to be high. Tournaments are posted on www.robotevents.com.
