EXPECTATIONS FOR REGULAR CLASSROOMS DURING FLEX:
Students will engage in activities and work to improve mastery of content and improve test scores.
Students will respect the learning of others students and limit interruptions.
Attendance will be taken during FLEX period. Students who do not attend FLEX as assigned will be considered skipping and face disciplinary action.
All Students must remain in the Classroom until the bell rings for FLEX to end. To ensure that your learning goals are met, you should not leave the room during FLEX for any reason.
Mastery Lab
Mastery Lab allows students the opportunity to pursue grade replacement on tests and major assignments on which they did not show mastery. Students will be allowed to retest standards-based assessments or major assignments on which they scored below an 80. Students must be assigned to Mastery Lab by their teacher in order to pursue grade replacement. PCC classes are not eligible for grade replacement.
In order to be granted the opportunity to go to the Mastery Lab to retest, a student must attend FLEX for remediation. During FLEX, students must complete all assigned tasks. If a teacher determines a need for continued remediation, he or she may require a student to attend an afternoon tutorial session prior to being assigned to Mastery Lab.
Grades on the retest are capped at an 80. The student will receive the highest of the two grades scored on an assignment/test, whether that be the original grade achieved or the retest grade. The improved grade will be recorded in the six weeks of the original assignment/test.
Behavior Expectations in Tutoring and Mastery Lab mirror the school day, including the uniform policy. Students are expected to adhere to PCS Code of Conduct. In addition, failure to work on assignments or follow rules in Tutoring or Mastery Lab will result in the student being dismissed. If dismissed from Mastery Lab, the opportunity for grade recovery for that assignment will be lost.
Transportation is provided for students who stay for Tutoring or Mastery Lab. The bus departs at 5:00 p.m. If you will be providing your own transportation, be on campus to pick up your child by 5:00 p.m. Supervision will not be provided after 5:00 p.m. and students will have to exit the building and wait for their ride.
