Language Arts Course Objective: In Language Arts, we will follow the Core Knowledge Outline while integrating the NC Standard Course of Study. Students will be exposed to a variety of teaching methods to allow them to grasp all aspects of the subject. Writing will be an integral part of this course.

Cheating and Plagiarism: Cheating is to act dishonestly by claiming the work of someone else as your own, or by enabling/permitting another student to claim your work as their own, or by obtaining for yourself or providing for another student an unfair advantage on a test, quiz, or any other academic work. A testing or quiz session is not over until the teacher states the session is complete. Cheating may include, but not be limited to, the following acts:
Wandering eyes, talking, hand gestures, etc., and/or communication of any kind during a test or quiz are considered cheating.
Allowing someone to copy your work.
Claiming someone else’s work as your own.
Having or providing knowledge of questions or answers before a test or quiz.
Giving or receiving assistance during a test.
When using artificial intelligence (AI) software in any manner not explicitly permitted or authorized by a classroom teacher. This includes, but is not limited to:
Completing an academic assignment with the assistance of AI software when not allowed.
Misrepresenting a portion of the academic assignment as your own without proper attribution or acknowledgment of the use of AI software.
Summarizing or paraphrasing reference material without citing the original source.
Using AI software in any manner not explicitly permitted or authorized by the classroom teacher, including but not limited to submitting academic work created or written in part or whole by AI software and claiming it as your own. 1
Consequences: We will follow the student code of conduct found on our school website in the parent/student handbook. Please carefully review these procedures and guidelines for discipline. Cheating is not tolerated at Pinnacle Classical Academy. Wandering eyes, talking, hand gestures, etc., and/or any communication of any kind during a test or quiz are considered cheating. The result is a zero, and students aren’t allowed to make up this assignment. Work avoidance, or failing to complete the work during class, will result in students being required to complete the work either during lunch or at home.
Grading Policy:
Tests/Projects will count 50%, Quizzes 20%, and Assignments (homework and classwork) will be 30%.
The End-of-Grade level test will count for 20% of a student’s final average.
Infinite Campus: Grades are entered in Infinite Campus weekly. If you do not have access or need your password reset, please contact Mrs. Deaton, our Infinite Campus administrator. adeaton@pinnacleclassicalacademy.com
Make-up Work: Students are responsible for their make-up work. Each student can find missed assignments on Google Classroom and Infinite Campus. It is their responsibility to locate their work upon returning to school. Students are allowed one day to make up their work for each day they are absent.
LATE Work: A 10-point deduction is applied each day an assignment is late. Grades are entered as a zero until the late work is received. After five days, the zero remains.
Newsletters: Weekly reminders, updates, and other information will be sent electronically to parents. Please contact your student’s homeroom teacher if you prefer a paper copy or are not receiving these.
Grading Scale:
A: 90-100
B: 80-89
C: 70-79
D: 60-69
F: 59 and below
