Application Process Overview- During Senior Year

Sep/Oct -Meet with your Counselor to finalize your college list and deadlines. Fill out the Common Application, retake SATs if need be. Finalize your application essay.

Request a counselor or teacher letter of recommendation at least 30 days in advance. Have a personal conversation to be sure they can do this for you and provide a "Brag Sheet" if there is information to share that your teacher or counselor may not know about you. All recommendations must also be requested through Naviance.

Nov/Dec of Senior year-Fill out the FAFSA and/or CSS profile. Stay aware of deadlines!

Jan/Feb of Senior year-Let your counselor know if any schools need mid-year grades and stay aware of upcoming deadlines. Keep an eye out for letters!

Mar/Apr of Senior year-Submit any last applications that you have. Stay away from Senioritis!

May/Jun-Make your decision, pay your deposit. Fill out your senior survey. Graduate!

CALLING ALL ATHLETES:

If you are interested in playing a Division 1 or Division 2 sport, you must be sure that you meet the NCAA eligibility requirements. You can find these requirements for Division 1 and Division 2 by using the Pinkerton Academy NCAA approved class list. Please note, there are different eligibility requirements for each division. Important College Application Deadlines

The Counseling department has a list of the colleges that were most applied to by last year’s PA graduates. This list does not include every school, only those that are traditionally popular among PA students. Please click here to view the list. This information (as well as deadlines for other schools) can also be found on Naviance, or on each school’s website.

This list represents information collected from each college's website and/or admissions department. These dates may be subject to change, for the most up to date information, please confirm dates with the college's website and/or admissions department.

*Some programs (such as Nursing, Engineering, Pre-Law, Pre-Med, etc.) may have different deadlines, please contact an admissions representative of each school to be sure.

Need a Letter of Recommendation?

Most 4 year colleges require at least 1 letter of recommendation. The general rule of thumb regarding these letters is to ask a teacher of a core course that you have developed a great working relationship with over the course of your junior year. If a college requires a letter of recommendation from your School Counselor, they will usually explicitly ask for one. You need to submit a brag sheet to whomever you ask to write your letter.

Remember to give those you ask time! Students should be planning ahead and identifying those to ask at the end of their junior year. If you are asking during the fall semester, you need to give whomever you ask at least 30 days to complete the task.
