For this project we were tasked to decrypt encrypted messages to find out where Ms. Tran's cow went. We use the code we made in class to decrypt a Ceasar Cypher encrypted code. Then for the last message we needed to make a different code to decrpyt a 10 digit Ceasar Cypher code.
The first encrpyted message we were sent to decrpyt was, "Vb. Cajw bjf qxxo yarwcb kh cqn kjlt xo cqn blrnwln lujbbaxxv. Bqn rb yjwrltrwp knljdbn qna lxf qjb pxwn vrbbrwp!" When decypted using a one digit Ceasar cypher it turned out to mean, "Ms. Tran saw hoof prints by the back of the science classroom. She is panicking because her cow has gone missing!"
The second encrypted message we were sent to decrpyt was, "The zhpk aoha dolu ol dhz kyvwwlk vmm aopz tvyupun, ol zhd aol jvd dpao zvtl QO rpkz lhapun tpua jhukf ulhy aol Jbl Xbhk." When decrypted using the same method you found the message, "Max said that when he was dropped off this morning, he saw the cow with some JH kids eating mint candy near the Cue Quad."
The third clue was the same as the last from, "Awumwvm umvbqwvml ammqvo Ua. Sqvo nqtt bpm jwet eqbp uqvb kivlqma bpqa uwzvqvo." to "Someone mentioned seeing Ms. King fill the bowl with mint candies this morning."
The fourth clue was the same as all of the other ones. From, "J bcdmnwc oxdwm j vrwc fajyyna wnja cqn bwjlt bqjlt frcq j blarkkunm wxcn: ljuu vn jc 650806" to "A student found a mint wrapper near the snack shack with a scribbled note: call me at 650806" but this code had a number and we didn"t know why.
The last clue was different from the rest, the decrypted code looked like this, "Tt wnk zbxrj bhk jwf. Ib cjssnj tw Sb. Bgscpef’z xlkike cv pky katmf, zmev nduo uzt woco cnj RH tplb." When we tried to use the same method it didn't work so it wasn't possible to be decrpyted using only one digit but how many digits were needed? We first made a code to decrpyt any code with any amount of numbers as the key called decrypt10 and used it to figure out how many numbers were wrong between the right 6 numbers from the last clue. We figured out it was 10 digits and with that knowledge we were able to decypher a phrase of words including some of the wrong letters decrypted to an actual word. We decided to brute force this to figure out the last four numbers but we could only find 3 because one of the numbers was a space in the decrypted phrase. So we had to try every possible number from 0-9 finally we found a ten digit key that worked with the encrypted phrase. The 10 digit number was 6508069789 and the decrpyted clue was, "No one stole the cow. It moved to Ms. Sanchez’s office to get candy, then went to the JH quad." So it turns out the cow just wanted to get some candy and walk over to the JH quad and no one actually stole the cow!
S: Strengths: Some strengths in my work was to keep trying and never stop working on trying to find the answer and also creating code to solve my problems
O: Opportunity: Some opportunities I had in this project was to use the code we made in class to find a phrase by decrypting an encrypted message.
U: Understanding: I learned how to find the rest of a ceasar cypher code to make it unscrambled
L: Limitations: I was limited by the ways I knew to decypher code and my concentration kept breaking
WISCR:
I felt that the two WISCR attributes that applied to me the most were Insightful and Critical Thinkers because I needed to think hard to find the answer to the cypher and a Self Motivated Leader because I was a leader during the project.
