Description: design and create a pair of animal figurines utilizing recycled bottle cork. Students design two animal bodies online in Tinkercad, then print with the 3D printers. The design consists of brainstorming, researching, online building, 3D printing, and repeating until students are happy with the finished product.
Brainstorm: I knew that these characters needed a story, but I couldn't think of one. So, I decided to use characters from a movie with a pre-written story. I decided to do the cheshire cat and the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland, because they are both animals.
Procedure: First, I had to measure each cork to see how big to make the ring. then, i would make each ring one millimeter bigger than the actual measurement. The flamingo is mostly made of circles, cylinders, and hand-drawn items. the caterpillar consists of circles, ovals, and semi-circles.
Reflection: if I could do this again, I would change the color of the caterpillar and I would have NOT colored the flamingo's eyes.
