Creative Convention Competition - This competition is great for students who are looking to develop their creativity skills. Students compete in a variety of activities based on a theme for the day. This hands-on competition involves both communication and problem-solving skills.

University of Pittsburgh Code Day Fall 2026 - Middle school girls are invited to attend PittSWE's Code Day on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at the Benedum Center, an event introducing various computer and code-related topics! Pitt's chapter of the Society of Women Engineers invites all middle school girls (grades 6, 7, & 8) to Code Day, a 3-hour event introducing students to a variety of computer and code-related topics! Topics include Scratch, artificial intelligence, HTML, and a discussion with current Pitt computer science and computer/electrical engineering students. This event is a great way to introduce your child to computers and coding (no prior experience required). When registering, please be sure that the name on the ticket matches the name of the student registering for the program, not the parent. Please email pittswe.outreach@gmail.com with any questions. Junior Conservationists - Frozen Frontiers - Get ready for an exciting adventure into Earth’s polar regions! In these engaging classes, we’ll dive deep into the Arctic and Antarctic to discover how life thrives in some of the coldest, most extreme environments on the planet. Ever wondered what makes the Arctic different from the Antarctic, or how animals survive in icy seas? You’ll find out as we explore the fascinating adaptations of whales, seals, polar bears, penguins, and more! Join us for an unforgettable adventure at the ends of the Earth! This class is available to students in 6th-8th grade.

University of Pittsburgh Middle School Engineering Day Fall 2026 - University of Pittsburgh's Society of Women Engineers welcomes all students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades to explore the field of engineering on Saturday, October 17 at the Benedum Center. This event is designed for Pittsburgh area middle school students to learn more about engineering and apply these principles to design activities!

In-House Chess Tournament - Students compete in an in-house chess tournament to determine who will attend the regional chess tournament in December at North Allegheny. This tournament will also determine placing in the regional tournament. The tournament will take place at PRMS library on Tuesday, October 20. 

Battle of the Brains Competition -  On Wednesday, October 21, students will work in teams competing against other regional schools on questions related to all subject areas. Be sure to sign up early as we can only take 10 students to this competition. Complete the Google Form on Google Classroom to sign up. 

Mathworks Math Competition - The Mathworks Math Contest (MMC) is an opportunity for middle school students to explore mathematics and be challenged by high-level problems.The MMC is a 15 question test that takes two hours. Students cannot use a calculator. All questions are done on paper and pencil.  Mathworks uses the MMC to identify students that would be a good match for the Junior Summer Math Camp Residential program in Texas. Mathworks also attends the Primary Math World Contest (PMWC) with a team of 4 middle school students selected from the highest scoring MMC participants. These students then attended the JSMCR program to work as a team to prepare for the PMWC later in the summer. Top scoring students will be recognized. The test will be taken on Wednesday, October 28.
