Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasing in prevalence across all industries, including every level of the education sector. As AI continues to advance, it will more significantly impact how we live, learn, teach and work.
Artificial Intelligence refers to computer systems that can perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perceptions, speech recognition, decision-making and language translation.
The School District of Philadelphia has established comprehensive guidelines for the integration of generative artificial intelligence within its educational community. This framework identifies specific approved tools, such as Google Gemini and Adobe Express, while outlining clear age-appropriate access and strict data privacy protections. Educators and students are encouraged to use these technologies to personalize learning and enhance creativity, provided they adhere to an established use continuum that maintains academic honesty. By prioritizing AI literacy and ethical engagement, the district aims to prepare students for a digital future while mitigating risks like algorithmic bias and misinformation. Ultimately, these policies emphasize that technology should supplement human expertise rather than replace the essential connections between teachers and learners.
These Generative AI tools are approved for use within the School District of Philadelphia. These tools were selected because they meet the District's security and privacy requirements. The data input into, and generated by, these tools will be housed exclusively in the United States. The data will not be sold or shared to third parties without permission and the data that is input into these tools will not be used to train their AI models.
