NotebookLM is a research and note-taking tool powered by Google’s Gemini AI. Unlike general AI chatbots (like ChatGPT or Gemini) that pull information from the entire internet, NotebookLM is "source-grounded." This means it only knows what you provide it. You upload your specific documents—textbooks, PDFs, Google Slides, or meeting notes—and the AI becomes an expert on those specific files, answering questions and summarizing information based only on that content. Notebook LM is currently available for all STAFF.
Key Features:
Trustworthy Answers: Because it looks only at the documents you upload, it significantly reduces "hallucinations" (made-up facts). Every response includes inline citations, linking directly to the paragraph in your source where the information came from.
Audio Overviews: This tool can "read" your documents and generate a podcast-style discussion between two AI hosts who summarize and debate the key topics in your notes.
Privacy & Data Safety:
As a Google Workspace for Education Core Service, NotebookLM adheres to the same strict privacy standards as Gmail and Google Drive in our district. The data you upload is NOT used to train Google's AI models and it meets FERPA requirements for the protection of student data.
