The Community Project is a way for 6th-9th grade students to make a difference in their communty! Students identify a world problem. Then determine a local solution. Students gain communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills and get to be proud of what they accomplish with their project. Scroll down to see the difference our students have made!
Ms. D's students wrote and illustrated a book celebrating our differences!
Ms. Juergensen's class created a campaign that encourages people to stop vaping.
Mr. Smith's class dontated items to Goodwill and learned how Goodwill helps the communty.
Seventh grade students in Mr. Osborne's class had goal to collect 1,000 cans/dried goods to donate to the Philly Share Program, keeping donations local.
"We've been working on the idea for a while and we're about ready to begin. We created a Google Slide deck that highlights our idea and presents information about food insecurity in Philly.
We've made a school-wide competition (hence, 1,000 Can Challenge) where the homeroom that collects the most cans wins!
We have made some flyers meant to drum up interest and a little confusion or wonder that will be revealed when our "Marketing Department" goes around, presents the slide deck, and distributes collection boxes. The flyers are intentionally vague and cryptic (we took our inspiration from the "I Hate Steven Singer" campaign)."
Seventh grade students in Ms. Zimmerman's class decided they wanted to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and how abuse contributes to poor mental health. They created informational flyers to hang around the school. Ms. Zimmerman and her students also baked sweet treats and held a bake sale to raise money for the National Alliance of Mental Health fundraising walk. Then, they had a wonderful time participating in the walk. We are proud of the contributions you made to improve your community! Way to go 7-2!
