Classroom Management & Environment components include classroom organization, arrangement, extension of thinking, a data-driven classroom system for tracking progress, evidence of targeted instruction, classroom procedures and routines, relevance of the learning objectives and student participation.
The educator provides an organized classroom with easy access to materials, thus creating a easy flow of instruction. Scholar workstations, spaces and desk configurations promote peer-to-peer collaboration, peer-support and peer-led academic celebrations. The teacher tracks data in order to drive instruction and actively involves scholars in data use, thus instilling ownership of class and individual data growth. Teacher regularly change learning environments to accommodate the learning objectives and access physical resources or interactions.
The teacher will empower scholars through shared ownership of routines and procedures in order to maintain fidelity. There is a strong sense of urgency to complete learning tasks and excitement for learning because the teacher connects the objectives to the scholars’ personal lives, culture, and linguistic backgrounds. As a result, active participation occurs from all scholars (i.e. ELL, Spec. Ed, Gifted, below grade level, etc.,), respect for all answers are demonstrated and diverse needs, will sets and skill sets are accommodated.
