Social Emotional Learning Teaching Practices include scholar-centered discipline, positive teacher language, responsibility and choice, warmth and support, classroom discipline, competence building, self-assessment and reflection that provides balanced instruction.
The SEL educator effectively invites scholar voice into establishing class rules and expectations, strategies to monitor their own behaviors/emotions and acknowledges specific positive behaviors. The educator facilitates scholar reflection about behaviors, social skills and work habits in order to help scholars make connections between their choices and the consequences. The teacher demonstrates an appreciation for every individual scholar by creating a safe space to make mistakes. As a result, scholars value listening, respond appropriately to redirection and communicates effectively when expressing their point of view.
The SEL professional facilitates in-depth discussions, appropriately scaffolds to differentiate for various academic levels, and encourages peer-to-peer feedback. Misconceptions are utilized to guide instruction, correct mistakes confirm the learning goals, and provides feedback that reinforces real-world experiences, application and problem-solving.
