The Ultimaker S5 3D printer will allow you to create an object that you modeled or modified in a CAD software. The Ultimaker 3D printer use a layered, additive process to manufacture your design using a plastic filament. The Ultimaker 3D printer can produce objects 11.5" long, 9.25" wide, and 13" tall with four different types of filaments: PLA, ABS, nylon, and PETG. In addition, The Ultimaker S5 has two extruder heads which can print jobs with two different color filaments, or produce a model with supports that dissolve in water.
You can create 3D models with a variety of CAD software, which can be printed in the Ultimaker S5 3D printer. At Pewaukee School District, you will most likely use Autodesk Inventor, Tinkercad, or Sketchup in class. In these programs you will create a .stl or .obj file. After creating the file, you will need to use the Ultimaker Cura slicer software to prepare your model for printing. In the slicer software you will enter your filament type, the quality of the print, generate supports (if necessary), align your model on the build plate, and prepare your model for printing.
