Activities for you to try at home
Activity 1
There are so many ways in which you can prepare for this course - obviously, you can read the texts, or start exploring the historical backgrounds. Click the link below for a good way to begin understanding something about Romantic contexts from the Renaissance.

Activity 2
One of the ways we compare texts is to examine how a particular subject is treated differently at different times. When it comes to love, there is probably nothing new under the sun, but the way in which we express ourselves changes. See the image below for an activity, enabling you to consider two blazons. You may know what a blazon is: it is a poem of praise to the beloved.
Score these poems out of ten:
1) For how good you think they are as poems and
2) How much you like them.
Sometimes we can see that something is good without enjoying it, or, alternatively, we can really like something that we think as no artistic merit. When you have scored the blazons, out of ten then you need to JUSTIFY YOUR CHOICES - write some notes to explain why you rated them the way you did.
