Google Search

The Basics

What is Google Search?

Google is the world's leading search engine, to the point where its name acts as a synonym for web search (i.e. I need to Google that.) By typing keywords into Search, you can have Google search through a huge amount of web content and bring back the documents that best match your terms. While a basic Google search is enough for many purposes, Advanced Search, Advanced Image Search, and Google Scholar can often be more helpful when you need to track down specific or scholarly information. Learning how to use Search Operators and carefully choosing the best key words will also maximize the quality of results that you get from your Google searches.

Who Has Access?

Google Search is freely available on the web at google.com. All staff and students have access to Search and to its advanced search tools.
