Chrome Browser: The Chrome Browser is a program that allows the user to view and interact with the internet. It was designed to be fast, secure and easy to customize.
Chrome OS: Chrome OS is the operating system that powers a Chromebook, as well as a few other devices. It is different from Windows or Apple operating systems because very little is stored on the computer itself. Data and programs are accessed from the internet.
All Perry Township Schools staff and students have access to Chrome. Chrome Browser is a program that anyone can download free from the web. It is already loaded onto all school PCs. Staff and student Chromebooks run on Chrome OS .
By logging into your Google Account on a Chromebook or the Chrome Browser, you gain access to additional features. Chrome remembers your bookmarks and history no matter which device you are on, and automatically signs you in to G Suite for Education (Drive, Docs, Slides, etc.)
Apps and Extensions are features that can be added on to Chrome. You can download them from the Chrome Web Store. Many, but not all, are free.
Extensions live on the toolbar and either change how Chrome itself works or let you do things with the information from a website, like looking up definitions for unfamiliar words or saving articles to read later.
Apps are independent programs that you access through the Chrome Browser or Chrome OS. On Chromebooks, some apps will work when you are not connected to the internet, allowing offline access to productivity programs and entertainment.
