In the Cosmetology program, you will learn to care for hair, skin, nails and create style and beauty. Students will have hands-on experience using styling tools, skin care products, and color technology. Computer skills are stress with a focus on the latest software in the cosmetology industry. Upon completion of this program, students will be qualified to sit for the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology exam. Students must successfully complete Junior and Senior Cosmetology lab and related classes.

Recent research shows that salons today are busier than ever and that there are plenty of openings in every city across America for hair designers, spa directors, aestheticians, massage technicians and nail technicians. Skincare, spa treatments and nail care are the hottest specialty growth areas today. The outlook for a career in hair design and Cosmetology remains optimistic. Once licensed, you can go virtually anywhere.

Potential Occupations in the Cosmetology field include:
Level I: The junior level consists of two courses. The Micro-Bacteriology course is conducted in the typical classroom setting, providing the student with an opportunity to learn the chemistry and science behind the products and services. Micro-Bacteriology includes traditional textbook style learning as well as an online portion to the program. Trichology is conducted in a lab setting. Students learn how to perform all the basic tasks done in salons and spas, including haircutting, hairstyling, all types of hair coloring, permanent waving, chemical relaxers, facials, hair removal, manicures and pedicures.
Level II: Senior students take Advanced Cutting and Styling and Advanced Chemical Services. Students concentrate on advancing the skills learned in Level 1, with particular emphasis on artificial nails, gel nail polish, advanced hair cutting skills and advanced hair coloring techniques. A highlight for seniors is the salon internship experience at a salon of each student's choice. Most importantly, this level concentrates on preparations necessary for success on the State Board Exam, with an end goal for all students to earn their Ohio State Board of Cosmetology license!
