Each marking period will be divided into 4 graded Physical Education activities
9/10th grade curriculum (Core Concepts/ Swim)
11/12th grade curriculum (Lifetime Activities)
Physical Education Uniform:
Locker rooms will be available and encouraged for students to change into PHS PE apparel or athletic wear on a voluntary basis. Physical Education apparel can be purchased at either school store in the morning or during lunches. Students must also wear footwear that is supportive of movement. Students are expected to reference the school policy on dress code.
Physical Education Attendance Policy:
Students who miss more than seven days during a semester course will not receive credit for the course provided that this policy will be modified for students with disabilities if such modification is necessary as a reasonable accommodation and provided that this policy may be waived or otherwise altered as may be necessary for students with disabilities on a case-by-case, student-specific basis.
Students who miss more than seven days during a nine-week course will not receive credit for the course provided that this policy will be modified for students with disabilities if such modification is necessary as a reasonable accommodation. Students will still dress out properly for physical education with this excuse note and are required to stay in their designated activity for the entire class period.
Physical Education Excuse:
Examples of Acceptable Excuses: Extended illness, family death notices, doctor's notes, college visitations, court subpoenas, religious holidays.
Examples of Unacceptable Excuses: Second family trip beyond excused days, overslept, missed bus.
Physician Medical Excuse:
Any medical excuse longer than 2 days MUST be signed by a physician noting the extent of the injury or illness and the starting/ending date of the medical excuse. The physician's note should accompany the student on the first day of their illness/injury. If this does not occur, the student's grade will remain a 0 until further notice.
Limited Medical Excuse:
Students will dress for physical education class & be placed in activities appropriate for their limitations. If a student is medically excused from swimming, they will be placed into another Physical Education activity. We require a student to bring in their medical note prior to or on the 1st day of the swimming unit. If a student fails to bring in a medical excuse for swimming before the end of the unit, they will fail that unit.
Athletic Excuse:
Athletics are not a substitute for physical education class; therefore athletes may not be excused from class. If an athlete does not dress and participate for physical education class the day of a contest, then he/she will NOT participate in the athletic contest (NO EXCEPTIONS). If your child needs to leave early for an away game, they will dress & participate in physical education class until they need to leave.
*At no point in time during class are cell phones, homework, earbuds or any other material/devices allowed with the student whether they're participating in Physical Education or not. If they choose not to comply with these rules then an infraction will be issued.
